The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery is excited to partner with Fields Trips to organize their first fundraising trip. This first 3-day experience will take you to the world renowned Corning Museum of Glass with stops at New York Kitchen, Mackenzie-Childs, Roycroft Campus, and the Buffalo AKG Art Museum (formerly the Albright-Knox Art Gallery). It includes two make-and-take activities, breakfasts, and lunches. Join me on this great adventure while supporting the Gallery!
Day 1 After crossing into the US, we’ll make our way to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. Situated at the edge of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Delaware Park, the museum is one of the oldest museums dedicated to the art of our time. Our guided tour is a conversation, rather than a lecture, and is led by enthusiastic museum docents who are educated on the extraordinary permanent collections and special exhibitions. Expect to encounter surprising new connections between you and the art and artists of our time. After this, we step back in time with a visit to the Roycroft Campus. The Roycroft Campus, the Roycroft way of life and its story began in 1897 with Elbert Hubbard a legendary man of vision who founded the American Arts and Crafts Movement in East Aurora NY. For more than 20 years, the Roycroft Campus was a center of entrepreneurship, creativity and learning. It was a hub of activity with over five hundred working artisans and craftsmen and drew visitors from faraway places. From the moment you enter the Campus and arrive at the Inn, you are immersed in the beauty and unique style of the Roycroft artisans. As you step through the grand doors “time still seems to stand still”, at least for a minute. Following a delightful lunch at the Roycroft Inn, it’s time to let your creative side come out in the ‘MAKE & TAKE’ portion of the day. Doubletree Hotel, Corning NY. (L)
DAY 2 Glass is a versatile, ancient material that is still being explored and understood by artists, scientists and historians today. The story of glass is a story about art, history, culture, technology, science, craft and design. With over 50,000 objects representing more than 3,500 years of history, there is no better place to experience it all than the Corning Museum of Glass. The Museum brings glass to life through live, narrated glass working demonstrations. Some of these daily demonstrations take place in a renovated historic glass factory building that contains one of the world’s largest facilities of its kind. Established in 1951 by Corning Glass Works (now Corning Incorporated) as a gift to the nation for the company’s 100th anniversary, The Corning Museum of Glass is a not-for-profit museum dedicated to exploring a single material: glass. Annually welcoming over 300,000 visitors from around the world, the Museum's campus is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of glass, the world’s foremost library on glass, and one of the top glass working schools in the world. With a self-guided tour and included Hands On Experience, this is a day that is sure to blow you away! (B)
Day 3 The fun isn’t over yet! This morning includes a whimsical visit to Mackenzie-Childs. Situated on a tranquil Victorian farm overlooking Cayuga Lake, their designers and artisans have created beautiful products that add joy and grace to homes throughout the world. Colorful, handmade ceramics, enamelware, glassware, furniture, and home accessories define their collection. Their production studio, Farmhouse, and store highlight their unique one-of-a-kind tableware and home furnishings. Following along the scenic Finger Lakes, we make our way into Canandaigua where we’ve included a lunch at the New York Kitchen, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to educate, engage and excite visitors about New York State’s incredible agricultural, craft beverage and culinary industries. Our Lunch & Learn event in their Educational Theatre features one of their Chefs preparing us a sweet treat! (B,L)
