Rocky Mountaineer and Calgary Stampede

Wednesday July 7-15, 2021

We begin our tour in Vancouver where we will ride the rails on the Rocky Mountaineer through British Columbia and Alberta. Arriving in Alberta, we spend time in Banff and Lake Louise before continuing on to Calgary, Home of the Calgary Stampede! Known as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” the Stampede is known for its rodeo, parades, stage shows, concerts and exhibitions on the history of the native people of Canada.

DAY 1 July 7 Upon arriving in Vancouver, we head up to the Vancouver Lookout: get a 360-degree view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Your adventure starts with a 40 second glass elevator that climbs over 550 feet to the panoramic observation deck. From here, you will gaze out onto Metro Vancouver’s cosmopolitan downtown, the vast Pacific Ocean, and the beautiful North Shore mountains. With a location just steps from the best of downtown Vancouver, along with stunning views and first-class cuisine, Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront has it all. DAY 2 July 8 Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Vancouver and the spectacular North Shore with breath taking views of the city, ocean, and surrounding mountains.  Highlights today include Chinatown, Gastown, Granville Island. Take a walk across the 137 metres (450 feet) long and 70 metres (230 feet) high bridge perched above the Capilano Canyon then stroll along Treetops Adventure, seven suspension bridges through the evergreens taking you above the forest floor for a squirrel’s eye view of a thriving coastal rainforest. Following Capilano, we make our way to the Grouse Mountain Skyride. High above towering Douglas firs, breathtaking views of the city of Vancouver, sparkling Pacific Ocean, Gulf Islands, and snowy peaks unfold as you journey up the mountainside. North America's largest aerial tramway system is your gateway to the majestic nature of The Peak of Vancouver, and an experience in itself. (B)

DAY 3 July 9 This morning we board the Rocky Mountaineer train and travel from the coastal city of Vancouver to Kamloops, in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. On today’s journey you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like environment of the BC Interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Kamloops, BC (B,L)

DAY 4 July 10 We re-board the Rocky Mountaineer train and continue our journey east to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Travel across ranchlands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form part of the rich rail history of the Canadian Rockies. Highlights include Craigellachie, where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, the climb over Rogers Pass, the Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels, the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. The Banff Ptarmigan Inn is centrally located in Banff National Park only steps away from the downtown area. This mountain hotel is a great escape to the Canadian Rockies. DAY 5 July 11 Today is a full day tour of Banff and Yoho National Park via motor coach. Yoho National Park offers magnificent natural wonders like the Spiral Tunnels, the turquoise serene waters of Emerald Lake and a natural Rock Bridge spanning the Kicking Horse River. A stop for free time will be made at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for you to revel in the breathtaking surroundings of Lake Louise before returning to Banff. (B)

        

DAY 6 July 12 *DREAM*EXPLORE*DISCOVER* Free Day in Banff. Spend the day at your leisure – head up the Banff Gondola for spectacular views from the peak of Sulphur Mountain, go for a horse back tour, spend some time wandering along Banff Ave to check out the shops (Kelly recommends a Beaver Tail here!) DAY 7 July 13 We say goodbye to the mountains as we head into “Cowtown”.  First up: The Calgary Tower. Have you ever wanted to feel like you are suspended in mid-air? Then you will love the vantage point on top of the Calgary Tower, with stellar views from 525 feet above the city. With a 360-degree view, spot the rolling foothills that surround Calgary and meet the Rocky Mountains in the distance.  Renowned for its genuine hospitality, the Delta Calgary Downtown is ideally located in downtown Calgary at the intersection of the city's business and cultural districts. Enjoy convenient access to all venues through the Calgary Skywalk system and public transportation, which makes exploring our city that much easier. DAY 8 July 14 Today we return to the Stampede for a full day of activities and the Calgary Stampede’s Afternoon Rodeo! There are many other amazing activities as well, such as the First Nation Village, agriculture auction, a midway with games, a market, and much, much more!  (B)

DAY 9 July 15 We bid farewell to the West as we make our way to Calgary Airport and back into Toronto. (B)
