On this National Day for Truth & Reconciliation we have an opportunity to participate in an Outdoor Discovery Tour on the grounds of McMichael Art Gallery. This accessible stroll will cover several historic landmarks, such as the original McMichael home, Thomson Shack and Cemetery, as well as outdoor sculptures. The conversation will revolve around the presence and legacy of various Indigenous communities. The tour will also stop at the newly named Minokamik Garden to introduce a new ecological approach in the cultivation and maintenance of the gallery grounds.
Afterwards, continue your visit indoors wandering through the McMichael Gallery to view the various exhibitions and permanent collection of the Group of Seven. It was these artists that collectively agreed: Canada’s rugged wilderness regions needed to be recorded in a distinctive painting style.
