Nov 3-11, 2020
Hungry for a FRESH NEW TOUR…Well here it comes. We’ve designed this tour with a combination of foodie experiences and stellar stops that Kelly has personally visited. Without question, is one of the most esteemed wine producing countries in the world and the Piedmont region in northern Italy ranks near the top in terms of the quality of wines it produces. We have expanded the tour to include; Cheese, Parma Ham, Chocolate, Balsamic Vinegar, Truffles and more. The icing on the cake is sure to be our time in Venice. To keep this an intimate experience, WE ARE LIMITED TO ONLY 20 TRAVELERS
Day 1 Depart for Milan on an overnight flight.
Day 2 Arrival at Milan Malpensa airport where you will meet your English-speaking tour escort and transfer by coach to Hotel Best Western Galles located in Milan.
Day 3 We head southwest to the foothills of the Alps, known as Piedmont. Any discussion of Piedmont wines would be incomplete without shining a spotlight on the 3 “B”s of this region – , and Barbera. Our first visit is to Agriturismo La Torricella where you will have a tour of the wine cellar before sitting down to a lovely lunch paired for our wine tasting, including Barolo. Later this afternoon we go truffle hunting at La Casa del Trifulau and you will join this amazing experience. As you walk into the woods with the dogs, the hunter will introduce you to the magical world of truffles. A truffle tasting will be paired with local delicacies as soft cheese, salami and a glass of Barbera wine. Nearby is the town of Alba and our home for the next 3 nights will be the city centre Hotel Calissano in Alba. (B,L)
Day 4 First up is a visit to La Granda, a promoter of EATALY and the Slow Food movement. La Granda created a plan to upgrade the Piedmontese cattle breed for the careful consumer. After a tour of the operation, enjoy lunch in their restaurant. But save room for dessert, as next up is a visit to Bramardi chocolate factory. We return to our hotel in Alba. (B,L)
Day 5 Many tours are so structured there isn’t time for you to pick and choose. We’ve deliberately given you a day off in Alba, during the Truffle Festival, so you can walk the streets, visit the Truffle Market (admission 5€), OR do a cooking class starting with a visit to the market to purchase ingredients, the go to the Museum Restaurant to prepare, cook and later enjoy lunch (cost 70€ per person) (B)
Day 6 As we make our way east we visit Rosa dell’Angelo ham factory and learn of the transformation of the pig into Parma ham. Enjoy lunch before a visit to the free range farm, nestled deep in the hills. Continue to our hotel in Reggio Emilia. (B,L,D)
Day 7 Perhaps not much thought has been given to the art of making balsamic vinegar, but that will all change once we arrive at Acetaia San Donnino. Villa San Donnino’s production is selected and limited, protected by the generations of knowledge and traditions of a family which has devoted itself to beauty and working in serenity inspired by the values of nature. Traditional Balsamic Vinegar is a natural food. We’ll take our lunch at La Cavallerizza Buffalo Farm which will have the freshest of fresh buffalo mozzarella, cheese and pasta. Our motor coach journey ends at the port near Venice and then take a private boat transfer to Hotel Belle Arti our home for the next 2 nights. Check in at the hotel and have a short walking tour of the nearby area. (B,L)
