Have you ever wanted to visit The Netherlands but don’t have the time? Come along as we visit Holland & Frankenmuth Michigan. You will still be able to see the gorgeous colours of the Holland Tulip Festival, authentic Dutch Architecture, gardens, canals, and windmills. On our way home we’ll stop in Frankenmuth, also known as “Little Bavaria” complete with German-Style Architecture, covered bridges, and so much more.
Day 1 Our journey today will take us to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Arrive at the Fairfield Inn our home for the next 3 nights and rest up for the whirlwind tour of what’s in store.
Day 2 Part of Tulip Time’s charm is the full immersion into the history of Holland and how Dutch culture played its role. The fields will come alive as a Dutch-costumed guide tours us through town and down thru the tulip lanes. You are sure to have worked up an appetite and the Dutch Lunch is a great way to experience a bit of Dutch culture while enjoying some delicious food and entertainment. Afterwards, THE place to go to get a taste of the area's Dutch history and culture is Windmill Island Gardens – and just imagine, over 150,000 tulips in bloom. We round off the day with a community dinner served by the volunteers. (B,L,D)
Day 3 Start the day off with a visit to town to get a first hand feel of the Dutch community. We’ll have a box lunch before this afternoon parade where hundreds of Klompen Dancers dressed in wooden shoes and Dutch costumes will entertain. After the ‘street scrubbers’ have cleaned the street you’ll have bleacher seats for the Kinderparade. After our included dinner we have reserved tickets for ‘On Golden Pond’ a beloved story of aging, family and foregiveness.
This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for their forty-eighth year. Despite time's passage, their bond remains strong, hinting at the possibility of another summer on Golden Pond. (B,L, D)
